When PB opens his mouth, and cock-a-doodle-doos ‘putting on the Ritz’ – it doesn’t get any better than that. The TV show was PB being the good trooper. And he did a great job with it. I didn’t know he was a friend of John Lennon’s. Interesting.
opaleye — I remember hearing Wilder tell the tale (on ye olde NPRe) bout how he came up with that scene and Brooks fought hard against it, digging his heels in, then finally relenting after some epic struggle between them. Wilder asked why he was letting the bit in and Mel said that Gene fighting that hard was what he needed to see to know it belonged in the movie.
