Great-grandpa’s advice

Steer clear of the drunk barber. His
blade sways. He shaves shapes
in the air.

the way the lines of this sweet l’il bit of advice keep breaking and rebreaking, i think YOU might well be the drunken barber of whom your great-grandpa warned. (now i well realize that my visual judgment is on probation after my comment last night, but i swear this thing has had three layout configurations, minimum, since you posted it….although if you want to tell me that it’s not you, it’s not you, all your posts constantly rearrange themselves while i’m not looking, i’d be very happy about that.)

it’s all true. I often do that — sort edit the day’s bit here and there — usually leave ’em as they stand come midnight. all part of the joy of workshopping these things blog-style.
This one, besides lopping off “in the air” in honor of the drunken barber, I ended up adding in the part about the blade after getting some good feedback that there’d be value in spelling out the stakes….

see my definition of “lumens” at lemonblossom. I like your lumens. they are so very haiku-like, with the same nice twist. and this one is like a brushstroke — the detail, the story, in 2-3 very short, sweet lines. Masterful, Cece.

I love the idea of shaving shapes in the air. I can see the hands of the drunk barber swarming around some hapless head. Sixteen sylables. Seventeen and you would have had to break the lines for Haiku. Good fun.
